My paintings evolve from photos I have taken either on my travels or while exploring the many enchanting neighborhoods of Toronto. These images serve as a starting point for my creative process, and no attempt is made to realistically reproduce the photographs. The two aspects that interest me most in painting are values and color. The scenes are simplified then broken down into several distinct value layers. Adding color is next with choices based on whatever concept I am contemplating at the time. At this point, the artwork takes on a life of its own as adjustments, deletions, and additions are incorporated. Thus the process of exploration and experimentation that culminates in a finished canvas begins.

I have always loved art and drawing. As a little kid, I would always rush to get my homework done so that I could spend the rest of the evening working on my art projects. As the years went by, any attempts to paint or take art courses were superseded by the need to establish myself in my new country of Canada, the necessity of paid employment, and the pressures of a demanding career in healthcare. The world of work eventually ended, and that gave me the freedom to begin formal studies and the time to actually paint.
